Initially, for its 4 buildings and 10 entrances to buildings of 78 apartments of 9’550 m² of living space in “Les Cépages de Satigny”, the developer had planned a large classical centralized oil heating system with a large tank in the middle of the district.

Why not realize a “solar-energy” installation, the SUNERGIE® system, to exploit both direct and indirect solar energy with the same and unique energy collection system, solar collectors all year round, and even during the night? Without polluting the environment and without being dependent on foreign energy?

This is what we proposed to the client as an idea, while realizing 10 decentralized and independent, but identical (standardized) installations per building, and abandoning the complex and complicated centralized concept which is almost always less advantageous than small decentralized systems.

ERTE was able to convince the owners to go for this SUNERGIE® solution.

This SUNERGIE® system also uses a new, standardized hydraulic distribution system, the enerBus®, in a very clever, different and intelligent way. Indeed, this system does not use geothermal probes which are and will remain fatally expensive and cannot exploit the solar energy directly. Based on a large surface of thermal solar collectors connected to a new generation heat pump (PAC), this SUNERGIE® system allows an optimal exploitation of the solar energy either directly, when the sunshine allows it, or via the PAC, allowing the valorization of the diffuse energy that the solar collectors collect. The solar collectors then play the role of absorbers for the heat pump (multifunctionality).

Moreover, knowing that during the heating period from November to January, nearly 63% of the solar energy in Geneva is diffuse, coming from all orientations, a maximum of energy is captured thanks to this system, whatever the weather conditions: sun, wind, rain, snow, frost, etc.

This SUNERGIE® system even uses the energy of the… moon. It’s a joke, but not that much, because this “solar-energy” system is able to work and harvest “solar” energy even during the night.

The use of solar collectors is multiplied compared to traditional installations and no need for fossil fuel backup or cumbersome and expensive solar storage. SUNERGIE® solar energy collectors are the only ones that can work 24 hours a day, all year round.

A special feature of this system is the decentralized production of hot water in the apartments. In fact, each apartment has its own 300-liter water heater, which represents a large and sufficient stock of water and solar energy. This decentralized production considerably reduces the problems of scaling in the pipes by eliminating the circulation of DHW. But not only that. It is the only DHW system that is “Non-legionella risk group according to EU/CH”, i.e. the risk of legionella proliferation is automatically eliminated.

Another completely innovative point is the SUNERGIE® system control, the brain of the installation, with Internet access. It allows a simple, fast and efficient management of the 10 installations by the responsible engineers. The controls are carried out remotely and live. The system also provides for individual temperature control for each apartment. This means that anyone can control the temperature of their apartment from their home or from any Internet connection in the world through a private access!

Finally, the excellent thermal insulation of the envelope and the double flow ventilation, also standardized with its Canadian well, allow to combine energy savings and great comfort for the inhabitants.

The excellent envelope of the buildings ensures a pleasant temperature in the apartments in any season while the double flow ventilation with its Canadian well make it possible to combine energy savings and a healthy and filtered air for the inhabitants. The heat from the exhaust air is of course recycled once to preheat the forced air and a second time to ventilate the underground parking.

True to our proven concept of “multi-functionality”, the exhaust air from the apartments is not only discharged to the outside “without doing anything”, but is sent first to the parking lot to ventilate it, much better and much cheaper than any separate ventilation system as usually required by Swiss parking lot ventilation laws, before exiting through the air outlets which also serve as smoke extraction for the fire department in case of a burning car.

Thanks to its philosophy of simplification, SUNERGIE® is the most global, least expensive and most efficient solution for designing systems with high solar autonomy. It is a “one size fits all” CVS-Solar system, for new and old buildings, for homes, crafts, administration, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, clinics, a universal system in a way.

This achievement earned ERTE the Swiss Solar Prize 2011 in the category of planners.
